Prof. Rakesh Basant is an Indian economist and Professor at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He was formerly a consultant with World Bank. Currently, he heads the Center for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship at Indian Institute of Management. Professor Rakesh Basant has been on the faculty of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad since 1994. Earlier he worked at the Sardar Patel Institute of Economic and Social Research and the Gujarat Institute of Development Research, both located at Ahmedabad.
Has experience of research on a variety of issues relating to agricultural and industrial technology, industrial policy, labour markets and rural non farm sector. Recipient of the Ford Foundation Post - Doctoral Fellowship in Economics (1991-92). Spent two years (1991-93) as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Economic Growth Centre, Yale University. Has worked as a consultant to the World Bank, Intermediate Technology Development Group, U.K. and the United Nations University Institute of New Technologies, Maastricht, The Netherlands. Current research relates to industrial policy and technological change.
Dr. Rakesh Basant has done Ph.D (Economics) from Ahmedabad University, M.Phil (Applied Economics) from JNU.
